Virtual single cell control over small cells with the 3G-LTE wireless interface

(in English) In the virtual single cell system with small cells, a mobile terminal (UE) can conduct packet transfer smoothly in spite of frequent handover as if it stays in a single cell. A logical macro-cell (LMC) for each UA is configured with several adjacent micro-cells where the UE is at the center. The UE movement is hidden since each base station (eNodeB) checks the stay of the target UE and packets are transferred in one of cells where the UE stays. If the UE appears at the sub cell instead of the master cell at the center, the LMC is handed over, and the sub cell becomes the new master cell. Thus, the target UE is always in the LMC. This paper examines the 3G-LTE adaptation to the virtual single cell concept. If packet transfer triggering procedure of the 3G-LTE is adopted to check the appearance of the target UE in sub cell, the wireless resource waste is very large. Here, this paper proposes use of schedule request (SR) signaling on PUCCH. The accessing code is pre-notified to the target UE When the UE receives the radio power of the sub cell, it emits the SR., The eNodeB which gets the SR takes UE’s status through PDCCH and PUSCH and packets are transferred there. At the same time, the status of the target UE is multicast to the cells designated to the new LMC through the back haul. The designated cells set each role autonomously. The new SR code in the new sub cell is notified to the target UE through the new master eNodeB. Then, LMC handover finishes. The handover gap is small in comparison to the 3G-LTE handover taking advantage of new X2 interface between eNodeBs.
