Car tracking for rear confirmation support by particle filter considering particular motions of a bicycle in angular change and vertical vibration

(in English) Since the number of traffic accidents is increasing gradually in accordance with the increase of bicycle commuters, a rear confirmation support system for a bicycle is highly expected. This paper proposes transition and observation models of particle filter based on bicycle specific motions for car tracking in rear view. To handle angular variation of a bicycle, the transition model use random model using larger pulling force for larger angle. For the observation model, more sensitive feature for horizontal while less sensitive for vertical motion is used to cope with vertical vibration. Experimental results using a wide variety of real scene videos captured by a camera settled under the saddle show that the proposed method achieves 75.40% precision of the car tracking.
