[Special Invited Talk] Optical Inter-orbit Communication Technology
Shiro Yamakawa (JAXA) CS2014-24
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Optical inter-orbit communication technology is promising technology as a key element of future space communication infrastructure which supports space activities, especially in the fields of earth observation satellite programmes and hummaned flight missions. Such missions require large capacity communication links to ground. With the technology, high data-rate transmission more than Gbps is able to be achieved with smaller communication terminals compared to RF communication.
In this paper, Japanese and international activities and their latest status are reviewed with respect to applications of optical communication technology on the data-relay satellite system.
