In single-carrier block transmission (SCBT) which can achieve a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) property and robustness to multipath fading, space-frequency block coding (SFBC) is one of the promising transmit diversity approaches under fast fading environments. Conventional SFBC schemes have fatal issues as follows: (i) coding between adjacent subcarriers loses the low PAPR property inherent in SCBT, and (ii) coding across separate subcarriers gives serious degradation in frequency-selective channels. Addressing the issues, in this paper, the authors propose a novel SFBC approach achieved by time-domain encoding. |
