Polycrystalline cerium-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Ce:YIG) was grown on dielectric mirror substrates by rf sputtering followed by thermal annealing in vacuum. The film annealed at 750, 800, 850°C for 30 minutes showed polycrystalline garnet x-ray diffraction peaks and annealed at 900°C for 30 minutes showed hematite (α-Fe2O3) peak. The x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results indicated that the annealing temperature and annealing time have no effect on the chemical bond state of cerium in the garnet system. The Faraday rotation angle of the Ce:YIG grown on dielectric mirrors is comparable to single crystal’s value. It is revealed that annealing in 800°C for 30 minutes is the best suited annealing condition. |
