In recent years, the waveguide-coupled type of superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SSPDs), which consists of a superconducting nanowire prepared on the optical waveguide, has been studied for monolithically-integrated quantum photonic circuits (MIQPCs) which is composed of various quantum optical components, such as single photon sources and detectors. In the waveguide-coupled SSPD, evanescent photons that escape from the waveguide are absorbed in a superconducting nanowire, and can be detected through an electrical pulse by a temporary transition to the normal state. As first step toward realization of the waveguide-coupled SSPD, we report the fabrication and characterization of an NbTiN-based waveguide-coupled SSPD on the silicon waveguide by using silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrate. |
