The Effect of NDVI and Band Characteristics on Building Line Detection Using High Resolution Satellite Imagery Junho Yeom, Minyoung Jung, Yongil Kim (Seoul National Univ.) SANE2014-83 |

Image processing techniques using high resolution satellite images have advanced during recent decades. However, artificial objects such as roads and buildings are still difficult to be extracted completely because high resolution satellite images contain a lot of complicated objects. In this study, regional lines were extracted using a Canny edge operator and Hough transform. The extraction results are analyzed to comprehend the relationship between building lines and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and between building lines and spectral band differences. The result was compared with reference building lines according to their angle and distance disparity. As a comparison result, almost of the building lines are extracted from the first lower part of NDVI quadrisection. In addition, it has the highest distance and angle accuracy. The higher the value of NDVI is, the less building lines are detected. On the other hand, there is an accuracy difference between spectral bands. The detecting rate, distance, and angle accuracy taken together, the green band is more appropriate for building line extraction than other spectral bands. |
