Evaluation of the arterial baroreflex system by using ramp inputs of vasoactive agonists
Koji Kashihara (Univ. of Tokushima) MBE2014-70
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The baroreflex for patients are assessed by the cardiovascular responses via a neck chamber device, head tilting, and vasoactive drugs. Ramp increase of arterial blood pressure is an easier method to evaluate the baroreflex curve, compared with step responses to require reaching a stable condition. However, the ramp test may result in various responses because of the history of pressure inputs and outputs with nonlinear responses. The difference of ramp speeds may also cause misreading the result of the baroreflex curve in spite of the same input and central command (e.g., hypertension and hypotension). The appropriate ramp speed during the short-term baroreflex test was estimated; the nonlinearity was also evaluated by using the genetic algorithm.
