Development of Molecular Imprinted Filtering Adsorbents for Odor Clustering

(in English) Sensors with the ability of qualitative and quantitative analysis for odors have not yet been applied. When odor signals perceived by olfactory receptors are transmitted to glomerulus, the latter will be activated by specific odor molecules to form an odor map. The activated glomerulus corresponding to odors with similar molecular profiles are located close sites on the olfactory bulb that consist of different clusters on the odor map. Therefore, the measurement and clustering of odor molecular profile (such as polarity and size) by artificial sensor will be a promising approach to evaluate odors similar to the human olfactory system. In this paper a bio-inspired odor adsorption-separation and sensing system is introduced for the qualitative measurement of odors. The selectivity of the sensor depends on adsorbent materials. So polymers with different SP parameters are chosen to adsorb various odor properties. Moreover, a novel molecular imprinted filtering adsorbent (MIFA) is developed to improve the recognition ability on odor molecules with different profiles. The combination with adsorbent layer and filter layer provides useful information for designing adsorbent materials with effective adsorption properties in connection with specific odor molecules.
