Focusing on rib primary bone tumors, this article describes a method that exploits rib symmetry to separately calculate tumor volume. I calculated the left-right rib symmetry using the chest CT image of 17 healthy case, and tumor discrimination and volumetric measurement used 4 osteolytic type and 1 osteosclerotic type. The error for volumetric differences between corresponding healthy ribs was kept to within about 10%, clear differences in volume between healthy and symptomatic cases. I was shown that I could measure the volume of bone tumor without a large error. |
