Fast Cell Search Method Based on Frequency Offset Estimation for Heterogeneous Networks Using Separate Frequency Spectrum

(in English) This paper proposes a fast cell search method based on frequency offset estimation for Long Term Evolution (LTE) heterogeneous networks using separate frequency spectrum between a macrocell and a small cell. In the proposed cell search method, we first measure the frequency error of a temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) of a user equipment (UE) and then the frequency offset for the high carrier frequency of a small cell employing the primary synchronization signal (PSS) with the 2-GHz carrier frequency of a macrocell. Based on the estimated frequency offset for the high carrier frequency, we estimate the correct PSS received timing after compensating the frequency offset for the received PSS for a small cell. System-level simulation results show that by using the proposed cell search method, the initial cell search time to achieve the cell ID detection probability of 96 % is within approximately 100 ms even for the high carrier frequency up to 6 GHz assuming the frequency error of 3 ppm for a TCXO of a UE.
