Millimeter-wave Broadband Communication Beam Forming IF Receiver Controlled with Low Frequency Signal Component

(in English) Self-directed beam forming system calculates phase difference of received signals from each element of the array antennas with digital signal processing. And by that system, the direction-of-arrival of the received signal is estimated and a main beam to that direction is formed.
When conventional self-directed beam forming method is applied to broadband communication, the processing for broadband-signals from all antenna elements is required, thus to apply that method in mobile terminal are difficult.
We have proposed new self-directed beam forming method which can be easily applied to broadband communication.
In this method, the beam direction is controlled with phase information extracted from low frequency component of received broadband signal.
In this paper, prior to verification at RF-band, IF receiver modules were fabricated and the correct operation of the proposed method was confirmed.
The BF experiment using 2Gbps,QPSK signal which is assuming IEEE 802.15.3c was performed.
As a result of synthesis of four IF modules, improvement of the SNR approximately proportional to the number of the synthesized modules was confirmed.
