Proposal of Information Support by Writing System Considering Spatial Characteristic of Sign Languages
Masashi Tamura, Yuhki Shiraishi (NTUT) WIT2014-90
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) There are a lot of cases that hearing-impaired people cannot acquire the meaning of sentences exactly comparing to hearing people. One the other hand, sign language (SL) learners cannot construct the image of SL in mind because the pictures and paintings on the existing SL dictionaries cannot represent the spatial characteristic of SL. Therefore, we develop a novel writing system of SL considering the spatial characteristic of SL. The writing system based on the characteristics of SL would support hearing-impaired people, which result in the improvement of the quality of the information support. Moreover, SL learners are expected to learn SL easily by using the developed writing system.
