Effectiveness of Background Subtraction Method and Noise Reduction in Binary Images as for Estimating Volume of Liquid Imitating Male Urination

(in English) Our study aims to estimate the total volume and flow rate of male urination by camera. A convenient way of measuring urine volume and urine flow rate would help urine volume management for inpatients of cardiovascular disease and early detect lower urinary tract symptom (LUTS). After imaging liquid imitating male urination in air, we applied background subtraction method for converting raw image to binary image with the white pixels representing liquid. Since we conducted imaging under lighting condition of fluorescent light, there were noise inside binary images. After reducing noise based on the approximate curve line of liquid in each binary image, estimation of total volume and flow rate accuracy increased. Our result showed effectiveness of background subtraction method and noise reduction in binary images for the estimation.
