Recently, Ethernet has been introduce to industrial networks such as in-vehicle, trains and factory automation equipment because of its high capacity and cost effectiveness. In case of using popular strict priority egress control in industrial Ethernet, express traffic which requires low latency may not meet the requirement. To solve this problem, frame preemption transmission mechanism has been discussed in IEEE 802.3br Interspersing Express Traffic (IET) Task Force. Previously, we have developed a prototype Ethernet MAC with IET frame preemption for industrial Ethernet and evaluated its performance. In this paper, we developed a layer 2 switch with the prototype Ethernet MAC and evaluated latency of express traffic. Consequently, we confirmed that the transfer latency of express traffic is less than 2.12 s, regardless of the length of normal frames which conflicted on the egress port with express frames. |
