Analysis of Ultra-High-Speed Image Sensor with Monte Carlo Simulation

(in English) We computationally investigate the fundamental properties of electron transport in the backside-illuminated CCD image sensor with multi-collection-gates. To understand the ultimate limit of the frame rate, one of which is considered to be determined by the transit time dispersion of photoelectrons, we perform Monte Carlo simulations. It is shown that the variation of the electron transit time is dependent on the electric field and the device width, and an empirical formula is presented to estimate the standard deviation for the electron transit time distribution.
