As wireless local area network (LAN) devices have been widely spread in past few years, a shielded room realizing shielding effectiveness (SE) at 2.4 GHz band is sometimes required to suppress radio wave interference and information leakage. On the other hand, there is another requirement for a shielded room where SE at 2.4 GHz band is realized while other wireless devices such as mobile phones are available as usual. For this requirement, various types of shielding structures, those can realize SE at specific frequency band, have been reported recently, and a gasket-free shielding structure using cascaded substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonators is one of them. From the report, the structure can realize SE at 12-16 GHz and is almost free of deterioration for its non-contact structure. However, miniaturization of the SIW resonators is necessary to apply the structure at 2.4 GHz band. In this paper, a gasket-free shielding structure using folded quarter-wavelength (FQ) -SIW resonators is proposed and designed. An FQ-SIW resonator is a SIW resonator miniaturized along the direction of electromagnetic wave propagation by applying a multilayer substrate and changing the position of coupling slits. To design FQ-SIW resonators at 2.4 GHz band, FR4 multilayer substrate (er:4.3, 0.6 mm × 4 layers) is applied. From the design results, the size of a FQ-SIW resonator is miniaturized to almost 1/7 of the previous SIW resonator, which proves probability of realizing the gasket-free shielding structure at 2.4 GHz band in a practical size. |
