Performance analysis of filters using arrayed waveguide gratings under the influence of random phase error

(in English) Phase errors in interference arms generally deteriorate the optical performance of interference-based waveguide devices. Predicting the degree of performance degradation before fabrication would be useful for the design process of the device or system using the device. We have proposed a statistical model for estimating transmittance and chromatic dispersion of a filter using an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) with random phase error. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the channel spacing on the transmittance and chromatic dispersion of a flat-passband filter combining a multiple-input AWG with cascaded Mach-Zehnder interferometers. The results calculated using the proposed model are compared with those calculated using random simulation.
