We proposed and fabricated a tunable wavelength filter using an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) featuring ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) cladding loaded on Si waveguides. FLCs provide tunable phase shifts of propagated lights in Si arrayed waveguides. The length of the tunable phase shifter was shortened by increasing the effect of FLC due to the thin Si core layer. The switching operation of the fabricated device using the shortened tunable phase sifter was successfully demonstrated. |
