We aimed to reveal the effects of facial impressions on face recognition in terms of recognition performance and eye-movement pattern. At first, the recognition experiments were conducted using face images: Their facial impressions have been manipulated in positive and negative directions. Then, eye movement during encoding and recognizing those face images was analyzed. As the result, the participants identified a person even if the person’s impression has been changed from encoding to test. This result varied depends on the sort of impressions. Our current study suggests that the facial impressions can affect face recognition in various ways.
