Discussion on the ambiguity of time and spatial metadata for analogue photographs

(in English) Photos taken by recent digital cameras have rich time and spatial metadata like Exif data, and it has become pretty common that digital archive services utilize such metadata.  However it is not straightforward to use such services for archiving analogue photographs that lack accurate metadata.  We present problems we encountered when we built digital archive for old resource materials from Japanese Brazilian migrants, and propose adding a new metadata management layer that handles ‘ambiguous’ metadata as ‘ambiguous, but with explicit ambiguity information’ to such digital archive services.
