An Image Encryption Scheme Allowing Tone Map Operations and Its Application to JPEG XT Standard

(in English) Conventional secure image transmission systems are based on Compression-then-Encryption systems, where image encryption has to be conducted prior to image compression. On the other hand, Encryption-then-Compression (ETC) systems where image encryption can be conducted prior to compression, are expected for privacy protection. In this article, we propose an image encryption method under the assumption of the JPEG XT compression, which is being discussed as an international standard compression, for ETC systems. We consider how the use of the proposed encryptions leads to the degradation of JPEG XT compression performance, caused by an tone map operation included in JPEG XT encoders. Also, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed image encryption by considering the relation between the image encryption and JPEG XT encoders.
