This paper presents the improving effect of transmit diversity on the detection probabilities of primary synchronization signal (PSS) and cell ID in Long Term Evolution (LTE) heterogeneous networks using separate frequency spectrum between a macrocell and a small cell. System-level simulation results show that cyclic delay diversity (CDD) does not provide a distinct improvement in the detection probabilities of PSS and cell ID compared to 1-antenna transmission due to the increasing estimation error of frequency offset for a small cell using the 2-step frequency offset estimation. We also show, however, precoding vector switching (PVS) and time switched transmit diversity (TSTD) can improve the detection probabilities of PSS and cell ID obviously for both a macrocell and a small cell compared to one-antenna transmission. |
