LCL Measurement Method Based on Equivalent Circuit Modeling

(in English) In order to measure LCL (longitudinal conversion loss) of an equipment under test (EUT) or a circuit with high symmetry, an extremely-symmetric differential mode choke coil is necessary.
However, it is difficult to manufacture the differential mode choke coil because a coupling coefficient cannot be fixed to 1 and asymmetry of the two inductances cannot be eliminated.
In this report, an equation for LCL calculation is derived, including the coupling coefficient and inductances of the differential mode choke coil.
By using the derived equation, estimation error of LCL caused by the coupling coefficient and the inductance ratio is discussed.
In addition, a new evaluation method of LCL is proposed. In this method, parameters of an equivalent circuit model for EUT are extracted by S parameter measurement using a vector network analyzer.
After extracting these parameters, the LCL can be calculated by the equation derived under an assumption that the differential mode choke coil is ideal.
To validate the proposed method, the LCL of an impedance stabilization network is measured, and the result obtained by the proposed method is in good agreement with that of the conventional method using an LCL probe up to 5 MHz.
Advantages of the proposed method are simple measurement, having high accuracy and applicability up to high frequency.
