We focus on two-stage beamforming in a single-cell system where the precoder is split into inner and outer precoders. We propose heuristic methods of constructing the outer precoder and while the inner is acquired through optimization. The optimization problems considered are sum-rate maximization and minimum user rate maximization. We investigate the tradeoff between energy maximization and interference reduction and also account for user fairness. We also evaluate the performance of the different heuristic methods to see the overall effect of dimension reduction on the system sum-rate and minimum user rate.
