A fundamental study on terahertz wave imaging using amplitude correlating synthesis method

(in English) C-scan method is usually employed for pulse echo terahertz wave imaging detection, while the lateral resolution and the detecting range in depth direction are in a trade-off relationship owing to the shape of terahertz wave beam. On the other hand, in the field of ultrasonic measurement, imaging methods synthesizing signals of receivers array with broad beam are well employed for various applications. Using an impulse response of terahertz pulse wave measured by our experimental setup, we discussed the applicability of ultrasonic imaging method by numerical simulation. Simulation signals of receivers array reflected from simplified point-reflectors model were analyzed by synthetic aperture technique and amplitude correlating synthesis method respectively. The imaging results indicated the efficiency of amplitude correlating synthesis method, and suggested a quantitative lateral resolution for actual measurement.
