There are growing concerns about the increased number of the elderly with deglutition disorder accompanying the aging of the population. A simplified evaluation system of swallowing function which performs a non-contact and non-invasive measurement is considered useful for the diagnosis of swallowing function and the daily exercise and dysphagia rehabilitation for its maintenance and recovery. In this study the methods to evaluate laryngeal elevation quantitatively have been developed, which track laryngeal prominence based on the depth data obtained using a general-purpose depth sensor that can be easily installed in medical and welfare institutions and home. The area detection based on machine learning, the use of the model of hyoid muscle group and the application of non-rigid registration are introduced as the approaches adopted for accuracy improvement. |
