The required transmit power increases in proportion to the data rate and therefore, power-saving communication scheme is strongly demanded. To cope with this problem, we proposed power-saving cooperative communication framework. In the proposed framework, the mobile terminals (MTs) whose energy efficiency of communication using wireless wide area network (WWAN) is high are selected as proxy MT. Other MTs associate with the neighboring proxy MTs by wireless local network (WLAN) and suspend their WWAN devices. The power consumption of WWAN device is higher than WLAN device and therefore, total power consumption of MT groups can be reduced by proposed framework. In this paper, we implement the concept of power-saving cooperative communication framework into the smartphones and evaluate the effect of power saving. |
