[Poster Presentation] Proof-of-Concept of Massive MIMO Calibration Techniques with SDR System below 6 GHz
Matthias Mehlhose, Thomas Wirth, Thomas Haustein (HHI)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Massive-MIMO (M-MIMO) and beamforming is commonly considered as one of the key technologies for future cellular communications. It is targeted to solve the capacity requirements for enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), which is predicted to increase by a factor of ten thousand for 5G networks. Advanced beam management including beamforming and beam sweeping algorithms will be the baseline multi-antenna schemes in 5G. With the support of this novel functionality in 5G, M-MIMO can be an enabler for new services in the vertical markets such as industrial or vehicular communications. In this work, we study calibration concepts in an indoor lab environment with real over-the-air experiments using planar antenna arrays (UPAs) with up to 16 dual-polarized antenna elements. Experiments will be conducted using 20 MHz bandwidth in a licensed 2.4 GHz band. The SDR platform allows phase-coherent signal processing on synchronized and M-MIMO-capable software defined radio (SDR) platforms, with a multiple of eight active transceiver branches. The proposed phase calibration concept is the basis for future M-MIMO experiments using this SDR toolkit.
