Increasing demand for higher data rate in mobile communications has recently attracted interest in high frequency communications above 10 GHz, known as millimeter wave (mmW) communications. Challenged by the high path loss, the use of antenna arrays are mandatory. The resulting directional deafness has to be met by effective beam alignment algorithms. In order to keep costs and complexity in acceptable limits, it is likely that first devices for mobile communication will feature analog beam forming with one RF chain. We address this scenario, by introducing an efficient robust beam alignment algorithm and show its performance by simulation. |
