Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) For the past several decades, many studies have been reported about the influence of the material of musical instruments on the timbre. In most of these reports, however, they investigated the effects in the audible frequency band. With the recent development of information and communication technology, super high resolution recording and reproducing technology is becoming available for acoustic systems. That is, it has become easy to treat high resolution date. And in recent years, reasonable price version of wind instruments made of plastic (ABS resin) has appeared, which is used for educational and outdoor applications because of its ease of availability. In this study, we make a comparative evaluation of the acoustic characteristics including the inaudible frequency band using 768 kHz/32 bit super high resolution measurement system in an acoustic anechoic chamber. Harmonic and/or inharmonic overtone components in the inaudible range were measured for some instruments, which seems to be necessary for comparison of the acoustic characteristics of musical instruments.
