In the present study, we examined the effects of repdigits (e.g., numerical arrays such as “777” or “222”) on judgments and decisions. In particular, we examined the two hypotheses through two behavioral experiments; (Hypothesis 1) when we want to put special meanings on numbers, we tend to use or prefer repdigits, (Hypothesis 2) when we judge statistical events in the real world, repdigits do not affect our judgments. Results of the two behavioral experiments supported these two hypotheses. These results indicate that people find meanings in numerical arrays having no special meanings, which affect our judgments and decisions. |
