a study on walkable plane detection and its presentation based on RGB-D Camera

(in English) When visually impaired people have to walk out, they have to use white canes, but the range that can be covered by a white cane is not long enough to walk safely. We propose to detect longer walkable plane areas than a white cane by using a RGB-D Camera, the accelerometer and the gyrometer in the tablet terminal that is attached to the RGB-D Camera. When we detect obstacles or steps, we give to the visually impaired person sounds feedback to assist them so that they can walk safely. In this paper, we perform a verification experiment of walkable plane detection and consider the sounds feedback system.
