Bluetooth Handover Control Using Camera Information under Environment with Coverage Hole

(in English) This paper proposes a camera assisted Bluetooth handover control scheme. In the conventional scheme, when a Bluetooth slave device moves from the coverage of a Bluetooth master device and the connection between the slave and the master is disconnected, the neighboring masters send connection requests to the slave. In this scheme, when the disconnected slave is within the coverage hole of neighboring masters, connection requests from the masters are failed and repeated retransmissions of the request degrade throughput of slaves which are connected to the masters. In order to avoid this problem, we propose a handover control scheme based on the camera infor- mation. The handover controller with cameras detects a location of a user who has a slave device during handover and detects if the slave is in the coverage of any masters or not. The connection request is suspended until the user comes in the coverage of any masters in order to reduce transmissions of unnecessary connection requests. We implemented the proposed scheme on a testbed consisting of a Kinect camera and Bluetooth devices and then evaluated by experiments.
