Techniques for measuring the packet loss probability with high accuracy are important to ensure Service Level Agreements, but it takes a huge amount of time to accurately measure if packet loss events are rare events.
On the other hand, there is a technique called an importance sampling (IS) method as one of the high-speed simulation techniques.
In the IS method, simulation is executed first by changing the conditions for which loss estimation occur more frequently.
Then, from the result of the simulation is statistically converted into the true event probability.
However, it is difficult to apply the IS method to estimations on real networks since the traffic model needs to be known.
In this paper, we propose a method to measure the packet loss probability of the real network using the IS method and show that the proposed method can estimate the packet loss probability of a simple queue model more accurately than the conventional method. |
