As conventional physical layer security schemes for multiple-input single-output (MISO) wireless communications, the artificial noise (AN) and artificial fast fading (AFF) schemes assume
that channel state information (CSI) is known to transmitters. To prevent eavesdroppers from receiving desired signals that legitimate users should correctly receive,
the AN scheme transmits AN in addition to the desired signals while the AFF scheme does not consider transmit power levels and
multiplies transmit signals by random weights. The AN and random weights can deteriorate transmission performance of the eavesdroppers.
However, the AN and AFF schemes have a major drawback that they require a large amount of transmit power.
To cope with such a problem, the proposed scheme called the random phase (RP) avoids transmitting AN. Instead of AN, RP randomly changes
phases of the transmit signals, and controls amplitudes of the transmit signals so that the transmit power can
be minimized under the constraint that the legitimate user should correctly receive the desired signals.
This report extends RP from MISO to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, and analyzes security rates of the conventional and proposed schemes
on the assumption that the eavesdropper performs blind estimation of the equivalent channel frequency response matrix. Then, we conduct computer simulations of MIMO-OFDM
under multipath fading conditions with OFDM subcarrier modulation being 16QAM. It is demonstrated that the proposed scheme can degrade
bit error rates (BERs) of the eavesdropper and can improve the secrecy rate more than the AN and AFF schemes while reducing
the transmit power more drastically. |
