Performance improvement of RRDPS protocol by refined security analysis

(in English) In recent years, quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols which use weak coherent pulses have been attracting much attention due to its ease of implementing the transmitter. Security analysis of this type of QKD protocols usually focuses on the pulses detected by the reciever and ignores the other pulses. Recently, however, it was found that the information on those undetected pulses is useful in security analysis and it leads to a tighter estimation of the amount of information leakage. Here, we apply this technique to the round-robin differential phase shift (RRDPS) protocol, which is one of the QKD protocols with weak coherent pulses and has a striking feature that the amount of information leakage is bounded without monitoring signal disturbance. We show that the key rate is significantly improved compared to that in the original analysis. The result mitigates difficulty of switching many delay lines, which is the main obstacle in implementing the RRDPS protocol.
