[Encouragement Talk] Scope Expansions and Component-based Architecture Design of Operational Smart-Contract for Permissioned Blockchain System

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Enterprises have paid attention to permissioned blockchain (BC) characterized with smart-contract (SC), where business transactions among inter-authorized companies (forming consortium) can automatically be executed based on distributed consensus protocol over business logics pre-defined with program codes. A single BC system will be built across multiple management domains having different operational policies, e.g., data center of each organization; this will trigger a problem that its system operations (e.g., backup) will become costly due to the difficulty in unifying and/or adjusting operational policy such as procedures, timing, etc., among management domains. To solve the problem, we have developed an operations execution method for BC systems; a primary idea is to define operations as SC (called operational SC) so that unified and synchronized cross-organizational operations can be executed effectively by using BC-native features. Toward the production use of the proposed method, we also should solve the following issues: (a) to expand the scope not only to operational procedures but also to a series of operational processes (operational workflow) such as execution approval, schedule management, operational report, the evidence check, (b) to reduce the operational SC development cost for individual operational task. To solve the issues, in this report, we modeled a typical operational workflow of BC system, and designed the operational SC components applicable various operational processes by extracting common functions from the model. Reusing the common components could reduce operational SC development costs in a typical operational task scenario by 43%.
