[Invited Talk] Trend and Deployment of Next Generation Digital Broadcasting

(in English) Recently, research and development, standardization, practical realization of next generation digital broadcasting systems for ultra high definition broadcasting services are being widely performed in the world. In Japan, standardization of the UHDTV satellite broadcasting system has already been completed and 4K·8K UHDTV commercial broadcasting services by BS and CS satellites will begin in 1st December, 2018 before the rest of the world. As for the next generation terrestrial digital broadcasting systems, standardizations of the next generation digital terrestrial systems for 4K UHDTV television broadcasting have already completed in EU and USA, and steps to realize commercial services are currently being taken widely. On the other hand, standardization of the next generation terrestrial television system has not been started yet but researches and developments toward standardization are currently underway. In order to realize the 4K·8K UHDTV broadcasting systems using the current digital television broadcasting channels, it is necessary to increase the frequency usage efficiency considerably as compared to the existing 2K HDTV broadcasting systems, and various technologies to achieve this requirement are adopted in the next generation digital television systems. In this talk, trends, developments and adopted new technologies of the next generation digital television broadcasting systems are outlined and researches and developments toward realization of the next generation digital terrestrial television broadcasting system is briefly introduced.
