| (in English) | In digital system, not a single error is allowed in input data. Data senders add redundancy by coding before data transmission, and data receivers can correct bit errors happened in noisy channel by themselves. This is called as Forward Error Correction (FEC). To date it has been supposed that this theory was born in the 20th century. However, a Japanese monk, Dogen, protected his text against falsifications and apocryphal by coding and he mentioned it in his poem in the analects. Dogen’s Shobogenzo consists of the 75 volume version and the new 12 volume version, and readers cannot identify what to read. Thus nobody has read through his text to date. The current situation is what Dogen had been afraid of. The postscripts in his analects, “Number of lectures XX, number of poems YY” and those of 75volume version of Shobogenzo, “Shobogenzo + volume title + serial number, lecture date and place, clean copy date and place” are supposed to be error correction code. Readers should respect and decode them to read only the text protected by the original author. |
