(in English) Injection locking can realize precise carrier-phase synchronization between the transmitted data and a local oscillator with simple receiver configuration. By using this scheme, we have recently demonstrated a 42.3 Tbit/s, 235-ch WDM 64 QAM-160 km C-band transmission with a spectral efficiency (SE) of 9 bit/s/Hz. In this work, by employing Raman amplifiers in our WDM transmission system, we were able to greatly improve the optical signal-to-noise ratio of transmitted data signals and thus succeeded in increasing the QAM multiplicity to 256. With this improvement, we could demonstrate a 58.2 Tbit/s, WDM coherent transmission over 160 km in the C-band with an SE as high as 12 bit/s/Hz. This constitutes the highest capacity yet reported for a 256 QAM WDM transmission.
