[Poster Presentation] Effect of distributed load on BGS-based ring circumferential strain measurement

(in English) We have proposed a method for measuring a ring circumferential strain. In this method, the model of a Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) is fitted to BGSs observed distributedly in an optical fiber on a ring circumference. In addition, we clarified, by simulation, the relationship between BGS observation conditions (observation angle, section and frequency) and the measurement error of the strain on the ring to which a pair of concentrated loads are applied. In this report, strain measurement errors generated in the ring under two kinds of unidirectional distributed loads and bidirectional uniform loads are investigated to clarify the error characteristics under various load conditions. As a result, it was found that the strain measurement error is approximately proportional to the square root of the interval of the observation angle and frequency, namely, the reciprocal of the number of observed BGSs, similarly to the case with the concentrated load. This shows that the strain measurement error decreases independently of the load distribution with the increase of the number of the BGS observation points.
