In this paper, multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) unipolar orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (U-OFDM) for indoor optical wireless communications (OWC) is investigated. In particular, flip-OFDM is considered as a unipolar modulation scheme for intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD). In order to improve the system performance and increase the data rate, singular value decomposition (SVD) based technique is applied together with bit loading to minimize the transmit optical power for a fixed target bit error rate (BER). Based on a 4x4 indoor MIMO U-OFDM system, simulation results of BER distribution over the receiver position show that the receiver can achieve the lowest BER at the center of the room and the highest BER at the corners. In addition, bit loading helps improve the BER performances for all receiver positions. |
