[Invited Lecture] A development of battery-free small LPWA Sensor Device and its applications

(in English) Along with the spread of the IoT system, there is an increasing expectation for sensor devices compatible with LPWA that can sent the data on site wirelessly to a cloud. In order to realize this system, it is required to develop a small-sized device that is easy to install and does not need battery replacement for the sake of convenience and cost savings. In the case of using an energy harvester as a power source, power control is very important since power generation is very small and unstable. But it was difficult to downsize the power control circuit due to a large circuit scale and large-sized energy storage devices. This time, we developed the LPWA sensor device of 82 x 24 x 6 mm by eliminating the use of a power management IC to suppress the number of circuit components and by improving the circuit design with temperature compensation to reduce the size of energy storage elements. The developed sensor device complies with Sigfox wireless standard, and its operation was verified in a system connected to the cloud.
