Work on increasing writing field sensitivity can be divided into five problems in heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR). Although the coercivity can be reduced by any amount during writing in HAMR, a higher writing field is necessary for a higher anisotropy constant ratio, namely, for a higher coercivity. When the damping constant is 0.1, writing is easy. A writing field of about 8 kOe is necessary if we are to realize 4 Tbpsi and a linear velocity of 10 m/s. On the other hand, when the damping constant is 0.01, writing is difficult. We need a writing field of about 12 kOe to achieve 2 Tbpsi and a linear velocity of 5 m/s. If there is a Curie temperature variation, a higher writing field and a higher thermal gradient are necessary. |
