Simulation and Measurement of Metallic Photonic Crystal Point-Defect-Cavity with Air-gap

(in English) A conventional metallic photonic crystal (M-PhC) structure is constructed by a periodic arrangement of metallic rods in dielectric material, sandwiched by parallel plate metals. In this paper, we propose the M-PhC structure inserted an air layer between the parallel plate metals and the metal cylinder rods, and report the calculated results of bandgap characteristics and plane wave propagation characteristics. Furthermore, the M-PhC point-defect-cavity (PDC) with air-gap was simulated by FDTD method and was experimental fabricated, while the resonant frequencies of the M-PhC PDC were measured to compare with the simulated results. From the simulation and measurement results, the resonant frequencies of the PDC are changed by adjusting the height of air-gap, which validates properties of the M-PhC PDC with air-gap.
