On the Equivalency And Merit of OAM Multiplexing to MIMO Transmission
Makoto Taromaru (Fukuoka Univ.) RCS2018-222
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Multiplexing with OAM: orbital angular momentum was initially proposed for optical communications. Recently, its applications for radio communications are actively studied specially for LoS: line of sight transmissionsin millimeter wave and high SHF bands. OAM has sometimes been written in some literatures as if it were the new orthogonal axes, while quite a few papers point out and shows that OAM multiplex is equivalent or similar to LoS MIMO. This report compares OAM multiplex to LoS MIMO which is SDM: space division multiplexing based on the surveillance of related papers and theoretical studies. It is concluded that OAM multiplexing is a kind of LoS MIMO and one of the SDM methods in LoS environment since the eigenvalues have some interesting features.
