Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The IEEE802.11n wireless local-area network (WLAN) has been extensively deployed as inexpensive and flexible Internet access services. We have studied the elastic WLAN system that dynamically changes the network configuration depending on traffic demands, to reduce the energy consumption while enhancing the performance. As well, we implemented the testbed using Raspberry Pi for the software access-point (AP) as a portable, energy conservation, and powerful computing device. Our testbed experiments revealed that concurrent TCP communications of multiple hosts with a single AP cause unfairness in throughput performances, because the TCP window size becomes different among them. In this paper, we propose the TCP fairness control method for the elastic WLAN system using Raspberry Pi APs, where the transmission delay is introduced at the communication with the faster host in order to provide the slower host with more transmission opportunities. Then, the faster host reduces the throughput, while the slower host increases it. The delay is initially estimated by the received signal strength (RSS) from each host, and then, is dynamically controlled to balance both throughputs. To verify the effectiveness, we implement the proposal in the elastic WLAN system testbed and conduct experiments using two hosts. The results confirm the fairness of TCP throughputs among them.
