Rotation angle estimation of watermarked regions by mode of a histogram

(in English) Digital watermarks can be embedded around SIFT feature points which have invariance of geometric transform.
 When an image is rotated, marked regions in the image are also rotated. Therefore, in order to extract the watermarks, it is necessary to estimate the rotation angle and then the image should be reversely rotated by the angle. The existing methods rotated the marked regions one by one and found the likely angles for all regions. Since there is uncertainty of the angles for the regions, some bit errors occur in the estimated watermarks. In this work, we propose a method for estimating the rotation angle. The estimated angle is given by the mode of the histogram of locally estimated angle in each region. Therefore, only one estimated angle in all the regions is used for restoration.
 We evaluated the proposed method by accuracy rate of angles and bit error rate (BER). As a result, the true angles could be estimated with high probability. However, average BERs became worse, because a wrong angle involved failure in all regions.
