[Invited Lecture] An Invariant in Reactive Immittance Conversion
Takashi Ohira (TUT) WPT2018-58
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A passive two-port network behaves as an immittance converter. Especially when the network is purely reactive, there exists a physical quantity that is invariant over the conversion. We consider a linear system consisting of a lossless two-port network and a load shown in a block diagram. The converted immittance and the original that of load are mathematically related to each other by Möbius transform. Assume that the network is intended to make the former match 50 ohm. Then imagine the latter deviates in its immittance for any reason. It leads to power reflection at the input port. A key theorem we find here is that the reflection coefficient modulus is only due to how the load deviates, and never depends on the network properties. This modulus is therefore called generalized reflection coefficient. It works as a versatile index to assess immittance deviation.
